Interview with David Jacobson – The Seeker

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 25, 2016 7:36 am Tagged With: indie, New York City, Rock, singer, songwriter, United States

David Jacobson

In this interview we spend a few minutes with singer/songwriter David Jacobson to discuss his influences and his newest project. Stream David’s single “The Seeker” below and connect on Soundcloud.

We’ve featured you before but let’s dive a little deeper into the artist and the music. What attracted you to this genre or style of music?

I grew up listening to the Beatles, Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and Janis Joplin. My dad plays guitar and my mom plays piano and sings, so i was always around music growing up.
How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?

I put out my first EP in May of 2012.

Who or what influences your playing and/or writing? Also, what motivates you to keep going?

Jerry Garcia, Neil Young, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix to name a few. Making music gives my life meaning. Its all I think about. It makes me happy…sometimes.

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?

With this project I was trying to prove to myself that I could put out a release in New York City. I moved here about 2 years ago, and it hasn’t been easy to find the right players and people to play with. But I triumphed!

What was the last song you listened to?

I was listening to David Bowie’s, “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust” last night on vinyl.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

vinyl. It’s better.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

I don’t use apple music. Spotify is convenient, and Bandcamp is great for self-releases, and hearing undiscovered acts.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?

I think everyone’s ear is saturated. No one has time to listen to mediocre or subpar music. Unless you can make something that can really grab the listener, and give them something they haven’t been getting from the other 1000+ other artists they listen to, no one will give your music a chance. And why should they?

Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you perform?

I gig regularly through out New York City. You can see all of my upcoming shows on my facebook page, or my website. I’ve got shows coming up at Pianos, Bowery Electric, The Goodroom, The Gateway, and Rockwood Music Hall. I’m always gigging around New York City. Please come out and catch a show!

Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?

I have all of my music up on my bandcamp page, and on my soundcloud.

Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?

Donald Trump is a menace to society. For the love of everything good in the world, do not elect him as president. Vote for Hillary.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
