Interview with Kim Logan

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 11, 2013 7:45 am

MusicTree Festival will be going down June 7 – 11 in Manchester, Tennessee. We will be publishing info and features about the bands as we close in on this event. Feel free to check out our coverage from 2012.

Kim Logan

Let everyone know who you are, where you are from and what style of music you play.

I’m Kim Logan. I come from Southern Florida and I play blues, classic country, and rock & roll.

What do you do for fun? You know…besides music?

When I’m not playing music or travelling, I like to fill my house full of books and read them. I also like to drink.

What was the last song you listened to?

The last song I listened to was a live performance from 2006 of Bonnie Raitt and the Rolling Stones performing “Shine A Light.”

What did you listen to when you were younger? What do you listen to now? Have your tastes changed?

My dad introduced me to Bonnie Raitt, Led Zeppelin, delta blues, cajun and zydeco music, the Beatles, and classic country all while I was very young. That all still makes my world go round. He threw me in opera lessons at age 9 when I told him I wanted to be a professional singer, and I’ve stuck with it for 13 years – this fall I will be performing in my 16th professional opera.

Was there an “ah-ha” moment in your life when you knew music would be the path you were going to walk?

For most of the 1990s, my mom did PR and event coordination for Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker Band, Bonnie Bramlett, Molly Hatchet, and a bunch of other amazing southern rock and blues musicians. When I was 12, I had already been singing obsessively for a few years, and Doug Gray from Marshall Tucker told me I needed to get a move on already and kicked my ass out onstage with Charlie Daniels to sing “Amazing Grace” and “Sweet Home Alabama.” It was at the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa, and I was on the Jumbotron and I should have been terrified out of my mind, but it just felt right. I think it was then that I knew.

How did you hear about Music Tree Fest?

I heard about Music Tree Fest through my manager.

How do you feel about being a part of Music Tree Festival?

I’m thrilled! Tennessee is my adopted home, and I will spend the rest of my life supporting the arts here.

Do you have plans for Bonnaroo?

I have to be back in Nashville on the 8th to play a show during CMA Fest, but I wish I could stay and see JD McPherson play. I have the hugest crush on him.

Do you have an album available? Where can we get it? Where can people connect with you online?

You can find me at www.kimlogan.net, and my album is for sale at kimlogan.bandcamp.com! It will be pressed to vinyl this fall – I can’t wait.
