Interview with Pretty Boy of FTB Records

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman December 2, 2012 8:41 am

Pretty Boy

Below is our interview with North Carolina’s Pretty Boy of FTB Records.

Who is Pretty Boy and what led him down this path known as music?

Pretty Boy is a confident rapper, one who sees himself in his own lane with his music and creativity.

He also loves collaborating with different artist to put out different sounds. Pretty Boy is a great story teller and loves doing passionate music that makes people feel where he’s coming from.

Who and what are your biggest influences?

My biggest influence is life itself, because without going through things in life you really have nothing else to relate or rap about.

One of my biggest influences musically is Tupac. It’s just the way he says what he wants to say without having any filler.

I read you were the oldest of 5 in a single parent home. How has playing that role affected your music?

Me being in this situation has made me a better person and more passionate person just because of the things we go through together, the struggles, the good times, the bad times and it also makes me want to get us out of the struggle and put us in a better place.

Is it part of what keeps you moving forward?

Yes it is a big part of me moving forward, just because of the fact I wanna better us all.

What is the hip hop scene like in Troy, North Carolina?

I live in Charlotte, NC at this present time but I was born and raised in Troy, NC.

Troy is a quiet storm right now, the reason for saying that is people know something is brewing behind the scenes and plus being a part of it I can personally say big things are on the way.

Who are some other artists in the area you are working with or support?

Other artists I support in my area is my FTB team!

First of all and I’m not just saying that because they are on my side. I’m saying that because there is serious talent in each of us, and besides my camp I support anybody that I consider to be competition…lol.

What do you think sets you apart from every other guy out here calling themselves rappers?

What sets me apart from other “rappers” is…I don’t really pay attention to other people…I just do what I feel, I mean there are influences but I just do me. That’s the difference to me.

Has the Internet helped you with your music? What role has it played?

Yea the Internet has been a big help in spreading my music, as well as everyone else, and I see it as a label itself. The way so many artist put their stuff out and invest their time in it because it’s a major help, it’s kind of a main source even though I still believe in the street promotion…hand to hand, contact face to face with new fans.

I love that!

Do you have an album available? Where can people get it?

You can find all my music and mixtapes at www.FTBRECORDS.com it has the links to all my social sites as well.

Any last words or shout outs?

I just want to shout you guys out as well as my fans and supporters and of course my FTB family…

Cato, BTR, Kul Ray, Storm, J Rich, Torture Twinz, JD and the whole staff and promotion teams!!! What up Jordan!

First The Business baby!!!

O yea, thats our motto.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
