Interview with The Decadence

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman June 8, 2013 9:29 am

The Decadence

Let everyone know who you are, where you are from and what style of music you play.

We are The Decadence, a pop/rock band based out of Nashville.

What do you do for fun? You know…besides music?

We’re all big sports fans, especially during college basketball season. We have a small in-band rivalry running between Indiana and Kentucky. Needless to say, things can get a little heated!

What was the last song you listened to?

I have iTunes running in the background while typing this and it happens to be Cheap Trick’s “I Can’t Take It”. One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands.

What did you listen to when you were younger? What do you listen to now? Have your tastes changed?

I grew up on a lot of FM radio pop. Growing up in a small town you pretty much had the radio and MTV (when they still played videos). My tastes haven’t really changed as much as they have expanded. My music collection pretty much runs the gamut.

Was there an “ah-ha” moment in your life when you knew music would be the path you were going to walk?

The first time I said “That’s what I want to do!!” was after hearing U2’s live record Under A Blood Red Sky. I just thought the songs were killer and that The Edge had such a cool sound. Then I ended up being a bass player!! Ha!!

How did you hear about Music Tree Fest?

We had the chance to play it last year and had such a great time that we couldn’t wait to come back.

How do you feel about being a part of Music Tree Festival?

It’s great. Can’t wait to do it for the second year in a row!

Do you have plans for Bonnaroo?

Unfortunately, no. We have so much going on with road dates and finishing a record that we just don’t have time. Maybe next year.

Do you have an album available? Where can we get it? Where can people connect with you online?

We are finishing our debut record with engineer/producer Brian Kunitz (engineer for Kyle Cook of Matchbox 20). We have it slated for a July release date. You can check us out at http://www.facebook.com/thedecadence, http://www.twitter.com/decadenceband as well as http://www.reverbnation.com/thedecacence We should also have decadenceband.com up and running very soon.

Any last thoughts? Shout outs?

Looking forward to a great time at MusicTree!!
