Interview with The Wooly Mamas

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 16, 2013 2:42 pm

MusicTree Festival will be going down June 7 – 11 in Manchester, Tennessee. We will be publishing info and features about the bands as we close in on this event. Feel free to check out our coverage from 2012.

The Wooly Mamas

Let everyone know who you are, where you are from and what style of music you play.

We are The Wooly Mamas, originally from Manassas, Virginia, now residing in Nashville, TN. We play rock music that has speckles of grunge, blues, alt-country, rockabilly, and Beatle-y influences.

What do you do for fun? You know…besides music?

PS3 and Xbox. Golf. Well, lately we had a friend from back home in Virginia move down to Nashville with us, and he got us started playing D&D. So we do that every weekend now, we never imagined we’d eventually transform into that tier of nerd. Sundays we play D&D for hours until Game of Thrones comes on. It’s our complete nerd day.

What was the last song you listened to?

Dead Giveaway the Hero Charles Ramsey song. It’s been on non-stop repeat in my head for two weeks.

What did you listen to when you were younger?

Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, The Misfits, Stray Cats, Metallica, Cake

What do you listen to now?

All of those bands we listened to growing up still, but it wasn’t until we were a little older we all discovered The Beatles, Radiohead, Wilco, The Band, Tom Waits, The Talking Heads. I don’t think any of us listen to anything extremely current other than Wilco, Radiohead, Jack White, Raconteurs

Have your tastes changed?

Not extremely, I think our taste in music has always stayed pretty much the same, we just keep discovering new things.

Was there an “ah-ha” moment in your life when you knew music would be the path you were going to walk?

There might have been a moment like that…I think we were probably all too young to remember when that was though. When all you want to do is play music it’s just kind of a no brainer, and it’s been that way for as long as I can remember.

How did you hear about Music Tree Fest?

Online, and from some other bands

How do you feel about being a part of Music Tree Festival?

We are totally psyched! We are right around the corner so it would be ridiculous for us to be sitting at home and not rocking.

Do you have plans for Bonnaroo?

Unfortunately not this year, who cares, MusicTree is where it’s at

Do you have an album available? Where can we get it?

Yes! www.woolymamas.com

Where can people connect with you online?

Any last thoughts? Shout outs?
