It’s A Fine Day for listening to Popkissed

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman October 15, 2013 12:20 pm Tagged With: dance, Electronic

Its A Fine Day by Popkissed Lill-Ann Blauenfeldt and Robert Solheim met one night at a party in Norway and began discussing their mutual musical heroes such as Pet Shop Boys, Annie Lennox, and Alison Moyet.

The natural next step was for the duo to form Popkissed.

After only one week of creating together, the duo had laid the foundation for an album. Choosing 11 out of 25 songs, they decided to release it on vinyl with 10 tracks and on CD with 11.

Before Popkissed, Lill-Ann and Robert were already established and successful solo acts.

Ms. Blauenfeldt was first discovered by her choir director during her freshman year in high school (in Traverse City, Michigan).

She joined the Symphonic Choir and later that year won the Youth Arts festival competition. She then proceeded to perform in musicals including Finians Rainbow (1982), Fiddler on the Roof (1983), and My Fair Lady (1984).

In 1983 and 1984, Lill-Ann won the Outstanding Voice award which resulted in her being offered several scholarships. She chose Michigan State University. Later on she became a member of the Oslo Philharmonic Choir (1995) and she was 1 of 4 soloists in Konserthuset performing Bernstein’s Chichester Pslams with Marin Alsop in 2011.

Her work with Mr. Solheim as Popkissed is her newest musical project.

Robert Solheim is a producer who has worked as (or with) Current, The Opiates, as well as his joint project with American composer Michael Snyder – Aquavit.

His music has been remixed by world renowned underground DJs and artists such as John Tejada, Swayzak, Terranova, and Kim Ann Foxman. Robert is also owner of Aquavit Records which includes imprints Aquavit POP and Aquavit BEAT.

His album underCURRENT was nominated best album in 2006 and his track Ghost Trip was voted number 7 out of 100 best electronic tracks of all time.

Together these two forces have created a powerful, atmospheric, mood-inducing album full of ambient electroscapes, pop infused melodies, and soulful grooves that leave you feeling uplifted and a lighter on your feet.

Also be prepared to bust a few moves as this music has a tendency to takeover your muscles and cause them to start moving involuntarily.

It’s A Fine Day will be available on November 1st but you can connect with Popkissed on Facebook or Twitter.

You can also keep up with news and updates by checking out the Aquavit Records website.
