Following last month’s release of “Another World,” Nova Scotia-based singer-songwriter Jont shares “Ibogaine Boogie.” Punchy, driving, and irresistibly playful, the new single pairs baggy ‘90s dance-rock grooves with country-tinged, indie-folk storytelling to explore the strange intersection of heartbreak, self-discovery, and the search for happiness. Equal parts existential reflection and joyous release, the track reminds listeners that even life’s biggest questions can be met with a smile… and maybe a dance.

Written in a single afternoon during the emotional aftermath of a breakup, “Ibogaine Boogie” began as an honest reflection on longing before evolving into something much broader. While wrestling with the familiar desire for love and connection, Jont found himself questioning the assumption that fulfillment lies somewhere outside ourselves. Rather than searching for definitive answers, the song embraces uncertainty with wit, warmth, and an infectious sense of momentum. 

“I had no real idea what it was about, but I was in the process of a breakup and I was musing on the pain I was feeling and the ongoing yearning and quest for a partner,” Jont explains. “I also had a sense that this was not the whole picture – of life, of happiness. Rather than overthinking the words, I was more interested in creating a banging, up-tempo song.”

Beneath the humorous title (Jont is keen to point out “most people do not boogie on ibogaine”) lies a meditation on the ways we chase happiness, healing, and certainty. The song playfully throws profound questions into the air without insisting on neat conclusions, finding comfort instead in vulnerability, presence, and the shared absurdity of being human.

Musically, “Ibogaine Boogie” is among Jont’s most adventurous recordings to date. Echoing the loose, groove-heavy spirit of The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays while weaving in shades of alt-country, classic singer-songwriter craftsmanship, this “shamanic indie-folk” anthem celebrates musical freedom over stylistic boundaries. Hints of the joyful abandon found in “Love Shack” and the sleazy groove of “Sympathy for the Devil” jostle alongside Jont’s unmistakably warm songwriting voice, creating something that feels both nostalgic and wholly original.

The recording also features longtime collaborator George Hoyle, whose expressive Moog synthesizer work adds another layer of colour and momentum to the arrangement. Together, the performance balances playful experimentation with emotional sincerity, allowing the song’s deeper message to emerge naturally through its infectious energy.
