Last of the Horsemen

Last of the Horsemen is a Nashville Hip Hop group comprised of KID DEAD and Simian Says. Their new album “God Must Hate Us” drops December 21, 2012. I recently had a chance to visit them at Villain Place Studios in Nashville, where they recorded their latest album, to ask them a few questions.

Rick: Can you tell me a little bit about Villain Studios where the album was recorded?

KID DEAD: A really good friend of ours, Loyd R. Norman, owns the place. He’s an amazing engineer and graphic designer. Really anything involved with music we go to him. He’s also an awesome bassist in a band, Fireworks Over London.

Rick: What do you hate most about Nashville?

Simian Says: Well, that’s a tough question. Let me think. I’m sure I can come up with something…

Rick: Well, what do you love most about Nashville?

Simian Says: It’s really diverse. I feel like there are other options other than just going to the club. There’s like little sects of different types of music everywhere.

KID DEAD: There’s not like a ton of places where you can find something cool, like good music or something fun to do every night of the week, like you can in Nashville. There’s some really interesting things that spring up out of a town like this. A lot of really talented people that have accumulated in one town so you tend to see things that you don’t see anywhere else. Like for instance, I was at a potluck last week and was hanging out and jamming with one of the most amazing cellists I have ever heard. I just don’t see things like that in any other towns. It’s one of the things that makes Nashville so special.

Rick: Are you coming out with any music videos in the future?

Simian Says: We’re going to be working with Maurice Berrett on a new project called Magellan’s Magical Mystery Tour with Aron Ray and Spoken Nerd. It’s based on a true story of us terrorizing a couple in a house last summer.

KID DEAD: I know what you did last summer?

Rick: Run us through the process of making your new album “God Must Hate Us”.

Simian Says: First of all, we did everything ourselves (except for mastering the audio). We got it mastered by Sillas Surphuro. Other than that, I created eight of the ten tracks. I used Bollywood samples and everything from like Jekyll and Hyde, Charles Manson and pretty much everything and anything.

Rick: Anything else you want us to know about the album?

Simian Says: It’s ten songs. Two songs co-produced. Everything is done by us in Ableton Live and recorded, engineered, produced and mixed at Villain Place Studios.

Last of the Horsemen’s album “God Must Hate Us” comes out December 21, 2012. You can catch them at the End of the World show in Clarksville at The Coup on December 21, starting at 7:00 pm.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
