Laura Marie On the Online Music Fest

by C Bret Campbell August 30, 2013 4:18 am

We’ll definitely be hanging around the AITP Festival for Laura Marie’s performance, and we’re tickled for this opportunity to get to know her.
Let’s start at the beginning. Tell us a little about yourself. how and when did you start making music?
I started writing lyrics as a child, started playing bands at about the age of 18 and became a full fledged solo artist around 1997.
Why do you do it, now?
I do it now because I can’t imagine doing anything else. I have to have a creative outlet and I have a natural talent for writing lyrics and singing. This is the thing I’m passionate about and I think when we are passionate about something we have an opportunity and responsibility to direct that passion in contributing something positive to the world.
What were some of your early influences and what inspires you today?
Some of my earliest influences were The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, The Police and The Pretenders. I inherited all of my aunt’s records and used to listen to them constantly. I’m inspired by world events, personal relationships and my own inner turmoil.
What was the last song you listened to (disc in the car or what-not)?
The last song I listened to was a song from Melissa Ferrick’s new album “The Truth Is”. The song is “Love Ain’t Afraid”.
How did you connect with Artists in the Plus and what attracted you to working with them?
I don’t know if I found AITP or they found me but I’m glad we connected. AITP has a passion for music and promoting artists. That’s something I truly appreciate because we, as artists, can’t do it alone.
Last year’s festival was a huge success and changed a lot of things about music on the net. Were you a part of that?
Fortunately, yes! And it was awesome. I still follow several of the other musicians who took part in the festival. What an awesome way to find new music.
What would you like to see as a result of the festival, this year?
I’d love to see a possible tour come out of it. Artists swapping gigs from town to town. How fun would that be?
Have you been using services like Hangouts On Air, U-Stream, Street-Jelly, or others to perform live via video on line? What kind of reaction are you getting?
I have used both Hangouts and U-stream. It’s a great way to connect with fans. I haven’t done it in a while but I’m hoping to start up again.
Village Studios in LA will be hosting the festival, this year and there will be a studio stage in North Carolina and another in Norway. Will you be travelling or performing remote from your own studio?
I won’t be able to travel for the festival this year because I’m showcasing at the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance over the same weekend and will need to be in Austin for that.
If you could ask one performer to join you on a record, who would it be?
It would be a dream to work with Jason Mraz. It’s not just that he has an amazing voice and that I love his style. It’s that his message through music is one I admire and share. That would be a dream come true.
What one thing would you change about this world, if you could?
No war. No taking up arms to solve differences. Let’s talk, let’s agree that we must reach an agreement using our intellect. Let’s talk until we find real and lasting solutions. No war.
Where can we find you and your music?
You can find my music on my website http://www.lauramariemusic.com, on Bandcamp http://lauramarie.bandcamp.com and on iTunes https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/laura-marie as well as CDBaby, Amazon and various sites that offer digital downloads.
In closing, is there anything you would like to add or anyone you would like to shout-out to?
I would like to add that I’m also a member of the GoGirls (GoGirlsMusic.com) organization and Jivewired.com, both are also great resources for musicians and definitely worth checking out.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
