Interview with Lights Resolve – Puzzle

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 6, 2016 8:22 am Tagged With: Alternative, Pop, Rock

Lights Resolve-Puzzle

In this interview, we spend a few minutes with alt-pop-rockers Lights Resolve to discuss their newest project, influences, and surviving in a digital era as an indie musician.

Full Q&A as well as a stream of Puzzle and links below.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?

We each have an eclectic taste in music but can all agree we love crafting music in the rock, alternative and pop genres together.

How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?

Believe it or not this is our 10th year as a band. There’s a long history filled with great memories, tours, releases, etc…but we’re most excited about this newest music we’ll be releasing later this year and early next year.

Who or what influences your playing and/or writing? Also, what motivates you to keep going?

We influence each other. The people in our lives also help provide the content for our compositions. We are motivated to keep on going because we have a raw passion for performing live and writing new material. I’d like to think we’re getting better as we go.

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?

We were trying to create the best songs possible this time around. In the past we relied more on creating a vibe and then fitting in a song around that. We tried the complete opposite approach this time around; the song trumps all.

What was the last song you listened to?

Ace of Base – The Sign. This is always the last song I’ve listened to.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

The stream has become the easiest way to consume. We do have vinyl, CDs and MP3s for sale though on our website. Nothing beats lighting a candle and putting on your favorite vinyl – especially ours, which (FUN FACT) plays in reverse.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Spotify has been my personal choice as a consumer, I’d love to hear what our fans have to say on the topic. We’ve done our best to make our music available on every platform.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?

Reaching your own audience has become increasingly challenging but it’s a great era for music where the good stuff will somehow rise to the top. Even if you stay a hidden gem, the people who really like your music feel like they have something super special of their own and that’s perhaps the most rewarding thing of all.

Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you live?

We have toured for a while all around the country. We’re based in NYC so a good number of shows happen there, we recently performed at Irving Plaza and also hosted our first Pop Up Gallery for our single “Puzzle.” This Pop Up combined all different art forms together with friends in SoHo at the same location where we shot our music video. We will be live streaming upcoming shows and more Pop Ups through Facebook.

Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?

Instagram/Twitter/Facebook: @lightsresolve or on our site www.lightsresolve.com

Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?

Thank you to the few music listeners out there who still connect with music in a deep way; you keep us motivated and hungry. We’ll do our best to not let you down! <3
