Low Tide Levee Unleash Their Debut Psychedelic Funk Album ‘Land of the Lotus Eaters’

by Leslie Sherman May 4, 2023 2:32 pm Tagged With: album, Funk, new music, Psychedelic, Rock, United States

Low Tide Levee’s debut album, “Land of the Lotus Eaters,” is a mind-bending journey into the world of psychedelic funk rock that is sure to take listeners on a transformative adventure. It has a Parliament Funkadelic meets Beach Boys meets 70’s classic rock bands like Pink Floyd vibe. Overall, the album is catchy, groovy, and infectious.

Led by the creative force of singer/songwriter, composer, drummer, pianist, and former marine biologist Amy Brookes, the trio has crafted a catchy and empowering album that explores themes of personal trials and the struggle to find strength in the face of disempowering relationships and societal conditioning.

The album kicks off with the Pink Floyd-esque experimentation of “DYBASA,” which sets the tone for the rest of the album with its bluesy vocals, burly blues-rock riffs, and mind-melting psychedelic-shred lead guitar. The album also features the previously released funk rock hit “Nautilus,” the garage rock-inspired “Dang Diggy,” and the trippy “Rules of the Game.”

Throughout the album, Amy’s songwriting balances a certain playful triumph with acknowledging darkness and bursts with life force. Lyrically, the songs can be mystical, irreverent, and enlightening, sometimes all in the same song. The music is freewheeling and adventurous, blending heavy blues-based riff rock, stanky funk, and sprawling psychedelia.

Low Tide Levee’s music tends and guards the flame of humanity and human expression in music, at a time when music is becoming more and more attuned to the domain of computers and artificial intelligence. With Amy as the primary creative force, the band showcases her talents as a songwriter, lead vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, with her husband Sasha on bass and studio guitar and a third guitarist rounding out the trio.

“Land of the Lotus Eaters” is an absolute must-listen for fans of psychedelic rock and funk. Low Tide Levee has created an album that is catchy, empowering, and transformative, offering a unique and refreshing take on the genre.
