New TOPE Album Coming Soon

by Featured Guest November 4, 2014 7:00 am

unnamed (11)2014 has been quite the year for Portland, Or Rapper/Producer, TOPE. The year started out with a nod from the legendary Erykah Badu, on the Noah Porter directed Take Your Time visuals, off of TOPE’s 2013 TROUBLE MAN EP.

Next, TOPE teamed up with group members Epp and Calvin Valentine to drop the critically acclaimed, genre-mashing “Vs PRTLND” album that included a feature on XXL Magazine’s “The Break” and a collaboration with Lifesavas’ Vursatyl.

March brought TOPE to Texas for his first trip to SXSW with 5 unofficial showcases. Back in the NW, the young MC opened for numerous acts across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho including Mobb Deep, Ab-Soul, Ty Dolla $ign, El-P, Bun B, People Under The Stairs, Zion I, and a brief tour with Blackalicious’ Gift Of Gab

In July, Juice Radio named TOPE #5 in their annual “Freshest In The NW” poll along the likes of Seattle heavy-hitters – Raz Simone, Sol, Gifted Gab, and Nacho Picasso. Add in production for LA rapper 2Mex, plus over 10 released collabs in 2014, including an Okayplayer feature for the Rob Milton collaboration Analog – its safe to say TOPE has been working!

All this while finishing his new album, BROKEBOYSYNDROME featuring production from Stewart Villain, Devonwho, Trox, Theory Hazit, Lawzspoken, Sir Chamberlain, and Dupre. TOPE also called upon LA rappers Blu and CashUs King (aka Co$$) for features, with DC’s Rob Milton plus PDX’s Dizz, Lindsey Reightley, and Blossom on the vocals. With compliments from DJ Celsius and live instrumentation from Farnell Newton, Beau Bryan, and Chris Hanson – TOPE has gone all out for his latest project.

If 2013’s TROUBLE MAN was a snap shot at where TOPE was at during that place and time, BROKEBOYSYNDROME is the story of how he got there. Speaking on growing up poor with drug-addicted parents and the struggle to make it out, BBS is by far TOPE’s most diverse and personal project to date.

Be on the look out for music videos, singles, remixes, and new episode of Trouble Vision dropping very soon.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
