NPR PREMIERES EMMA RUTH RUNDLE “ARMS I KNOW SO WELL” VIDEO

by Featured Guest August 20, 2014 8:16 am

Emma Ruth RundleEmma Ruth Rundle released her debut solo album Some Heavy Ocean earlier this summer on Sargent House to great critical acclaim.  The AV Club called it “stunning”, while Stereogum called it “intense, hypnotic folk”.  Today, NPR has premiered the first music video from the album.  Titled “Arms I Know So Well”, this video was directed by Tom McMahan and is a conceptual study of isolation and searching for familiarity, shooting in situations highlighting the solitude that is living alone with oneself.  Watch Emma Ruth Rundle’s video for “Arms I Know So Well” now via NPR Music.

In support of Some Heavy Ocean, Emma Ruth Rundle just recently completed a full U.S. tour supporting King Buzzo of the Melvins and now she’s out on the road with her band Marriages as they support label mates Boris on their West Coast tour.  Check out Marriages’ full tour routing below.

Emma Ruth Rundle got her start in 2007 and the following year, she was drafted into the monolithic post-rock supergroup Red Sparowes.  Touring the world playing the Sparowes’ epic brand of instrumental heaviosity sparked a fruitful musical connection with fellow Sparowes guitarist Greg Burns.  When that band commenced a well-deserved hiatus in 2011, she and Burns (on the invitation of Russian Circles), instigated a new group, Marriages, who released a stunning debut mini-album, Kitsune.  Meanwhile, Rundle and friends as The Nocturnes reconvened briefly in 2011, issuing a full-length album, Aokigahara, while solo she recorded an album of experimental guitar compositions.  What followed was a “dark, difficult time”, marked by family problems and personal struggles which, though exhausting emotionally, also incubated Rundle’s conviction to use their inherent misery as fuel for expression.  And with that, in May of 2014 Some Heavy Ocean was born.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
