ONE HUNDRED MOONS ENTERS THE UNKNOWN WITH “VOLODYA”

by Leslie Sherman August 29, 2025 6:00 am Tagged With: singer, songwriter

Atmospheric dream-gazers ONE HUNDRED MOONS continue their evolution with the release of “VOLODYA,” a tense and hypnotic new single out today. The track is the second preview from the band’s highly anticipated upcoming album, Black Avalanche, and offers a deep dive into the darker, more cinematic side of their sound.

Where lead single Black Avalanche introduced the record’s shadowy palette, VOLODYA dives deeper into that landscape, trading shimmering melodies for something weightier, more urgent, and infinitely more mysterious. It is a composition built on textures that stack and swell until they erupt into an all-consuming soundscape.

“VOLODYA” feels like walking through an abandoned city at night. There’s this tension — this push and pull between beauty and unease. It feels less about lyrics, more about letting the music tell the story.

From its opening moments, VOLODYA unfolds with precision. The track builds slowly, synths slicing like shards of glass while cascading guitars rise and recede under a fog of reverb. The rhythm section drives forward with quiet intensity, grounding the expansive textures in something tangible and deeply human. The result is both intimate and massive, an invitation to step into the band’s otherworldly sonic terrain.

The single carries echoes of Circa Survive’s emotive tension and the sweeping atmospherics of post-rock groups like Explosions in the Sky, but ONE HUNDRED MOONS never succumbs to imitation. Instead, the band continues to carve out a sound uniquely its own: moody, expansive, and unflinchingly honest.

With Black Avalanche approaching, VOLODYA acts as a glimpse of what is to come. The album promises to explore vast emotional landscapes, moving fluidly between delicate introspection and explosive crescendos. If Black Avalanche is a journey, VOLODYA is the map, outlining a path through shadow and light toward something haunting and beautiful.

Black Avalanche is set to arrive later this year. For now, VOLODYA stands as its own world: an immersive, slow-burning statement that invites listeners to settle into its layers and let its gravity pull them in.
