Philip Masorti Commits on New Album “Lost at Sea”

by Leslie Sherman October 25, 2023 12:26 pm Tagged With: Philip Masorti, singer, songwriter

Emerging from the picturesque landscapes of Central Pennsylvania, Masorti burst onto the music scene with a distinctive style that can best be described as “New Alternative” or “New Alt.” Drawing from a vast array of influences, including musical legends like Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, Leonard Cohen, Miles Davis, Gordon Lightfoot, and many more, Masorti masterfully blends these diverse inspirations into a unique and captivating sound that is all his own. His songwriting is equally exceptional, weaving authentic and evocative narratives that take the listener on a journey filled with intriguing, thought-provoking, and often emotionally charged storytelling, revealing the raw and turbulent facets of life. Above all, Masorti is a consummate storyteller, crafting each song as a window into his rich life experiences.

While Masorti’s music career may appear as a recent revelation, it followed an extensive 27-year career as a criminal defense attorney, where he dedicated himself to trying criminal cases in the hidden valleys and enigmatic shadows of Central Appalachia. It was during this tenure, in 2005, that Masorti first picked up a guitar and embarked on his songwriting journey. His innate talent for storytelling and crafting songs emerged effortlessly, and in March 2021, he made the momentous decision to relocate to New York City, fully committing to the pursuit of his musical passion. Soon after his arrival in the city that never sleeps, Masorti found himself collaborating with some of New York’s most talented musicians, embracing a bustling life of performances and recording sessions, further solidifying his place in the vibrant tapestry of the city’s music scene.

Significantly, Masorti’s musical odyssey reached its zenith with the release of his latest album, “Lost at Sea,” marking a pivotal moment in his ever-evolving career. Like a seasoned sailor navigating the ever-changing musical tides, his songs are imbued with a profound beauty that permeates every note and lyric, creating an immersive experience for his audience.

In “Lost at Sea,” Masorti delves deeper into his introspective songwriting, offering listeners a poignant glimpse into his soul. The album’s melodies ebb and flow like the waves, each track revealing a unique facet of his artistic journey. With lyrics that are both heartrending and inspiring, he weaves tales of life’s trials and triumphs, resonating with anyone who has ever felt adrift in the vast sea of existence.

The instrumentation on the album showcases Masorti’s versatility and musical prowess, with rich layers of sound that reflect his diverse influences and his mastery of both acoustic and electric guitar. The melodies are accompanied by arrangements that range from intimate and acoustic to grand and orchestral, demonstrating his ability to evoke a wide spectrum of emotions.

“Lost at Sea” is a testament to Masorti’s dedication to his craft, having poured years of experience, emotion, and creative energy into its creation. It stands as a powerful testament to his ongoing musical journey, where he continues to explore uncharted waters and sail through the boundless horizons of the music world. This album, with its captivating beauty and raw emotion, is a reflection of an artist at the peak of his creative voyage.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness.
