PONCE Interview – Afterglow

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman April 7, 2017 9:53 am Tagged With: Nashville, Pop, Rock, United States

PONCE.jpg

PONCÉ is a dynamic pop rock duo based in Nashville, TN consisting of twin brothers Carson and Michael Poncé. The twins efficiently cross genres; from classic, harmony-driven melodies reminiscent of Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, to modern, synth-led pop productions with melodic guitar leads evocative of The Killers and HAIM.

In this interview spotlight, we chat with the duo about influences, their newest project, the digital music world and more.

Full Q&A along with links and streams below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We’re originally from Muncie Indiana (if you watch Parks & Recreation you’ve heard of it) As far as our sound, I write from a lot of different aspects and I personally can’t really put one style down, but always try and write from my unique perspective. Just trying to make bangers and tastemakers

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

Music has always been a huge part of our lives and for the most part I think we both knew this would be our future, and I think the motivation comes from the need to write and the enjoyment of it. We’re always pushing ourselves internally and that’s a huge part of it, buat staying the course is more about the love of it all.

How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

I think just to be more deliberate and focused on the songs and aesthetics of the EP, and not to settle for anything less.

Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?

It can sometimes feel hard getting noticed with what feels like music overload through the internet in a lot of ways. I think social media is very, very useful in growing your reach and fan-base, as well as being able to show who you are as an artist and a person, but I personally think it feels like a chore having to post things across 4 different platforms as a

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
