Smoking Martha Will Pull You In Deep On Their Hard Rockin’, Awesomesauce New Album

Smoking Martha

I write about a lot of independent music…A LOT. I listen to even more than I write about.

With that in context, despite how exciting most of it can be every so often a record gets under my skin and really EXCITES me.  You know…similar to the difference between simply cleaning your dinner plate and those rare nights when you can’t help but pick it up and lick it completely clean.

If Smoking Martha’s new album were a plate of food… I would be licking up every last drop of awesomesauce I possibly could. That’s how much their new album, In Deep, excites me.

Based in Australia (Brisbane specifically), this refreshing, easy to love, hard rockin’ group of musicians come together like Voltron to create a wall of sound that is undeniably, inexplicably awesome.

From unforgettable, in-your-face riffs circa One Night to the sweet sounding acoustic finger-picking and smooth, soulful singing on Baby Let Me Go (talk about penetrating the soul with sound), Smoking Martha is nothing short of smoking..in the best of ways.

Not to mention the sonic madness that ensues on What’s Her Name? (Hit single… Radio? Anyone want to start calling stations and demanding this?)

The gut wrenching, unforgettable riffage, the knock and thump of the drums, the groove of the bass, the drums and bass locked in perfectly, the epic wall of arena sized sound, masterful song crafting, pristine production, and the enchanting, captivating, soul-infused vocal work of Tasha D blend into the potent potion that is exactly what this doctor ordered. Be sure to crank it up to 12 for full effect.

I highly urge you to try this addicting sonic layer cake.

Guitarist Mick Broome had this to say about the new album,

It was an intense but relaxed vibe. We worked really hard which brought out the best possible takes. We were told to leave our egos at the door and really focus on the music which helped us not get sidetracked by all the other bullshit! We found with enough push we could actually play better than we thought we could. Matt was able to drag out performances that really captured the energy.”

Fortunately for you In Deep is now available. Find it on Spotify.
