Sodacon – Songs of Summer (vol. 2) – Shine on

by C Bret Campbell March 20, 2012 12:52 pm Tagged With: Electronic, Experimental, Psychedelic

Summer is almost here, and I’ve got some new songs on my interstellar hard-drive! The new album from Sodacon, “Songs of Summer” an indie release by Jesse Crawford is burning its cosmic rays into minds all over the nation and around the globe.

Particles of light, atoms of sound, and waves of thought expand the horizons of the personal galaxy. This is a record of space-rock in galactic proportions!

I’ve had this one on for a few days, now, and I don’t know which is my favorite cut. Each song here is a trip of its own, yet the journey is not complete without the whole thing.

Sodacon’s Jesse Crawford has been perfecting his flying skills for over a decade, and it really shows on this stellar release! As the turbines (or atomic engines) spin, they light up the sky like the fabled ship, Serenity. There is no dark side here, only light.

Let the music wrap its spiral arms around you, whether it’s in the cans or on the big hi-fi, close your eyes and relax as you take flight. You don’t have to worry, the TSA won’t be checking for contraband, and you are in the hands of an expert star navigator.

Universal Space Rock

I’m thinking this Utah native has traveled the musical universe more than once. I hear strains of Floyd, Captain Beefheart, Echo and the Bunnymen, Dear Mr. President ( you’re truly a music weirdo if you know that one), and so many more influences I couldn’t put my finger on them all, even if it lit up like ET’s.

I made first contact with Jesse, over a year ago on ReverbNation, and I’ve enjoyed every track I’ve ever heard – and this cat puts out a lot of tracks.

“Billing his sound as Electronic Space Rock, Jesse Crawford created the project a decade ago as an outlet for experimenting with electronic music and analog instrumentation. His masters consist of well tuned beats, glossy blue guitar tones and confident vocals. His concerts consist of the exact same element intensified with high energy. With 8 albums released past 5 years he works tirelessly at crafting sonics and live performance. The new album to be released in April comes bundled with digital art.”

Do yourself a favor; get on board the starship and don’t be afraid to shine!
