Solange Knowles Takes ‘A Seat at the Table’ of Billboard Success

Solange Knowles may have served as backup for her sister’s famous all-female group, Destiny’s Child, but she is in no way living in Beyonce’s shadow. The younger Knowles sister topped the Billboard 200 chart for the first time earlier this week after releasing her latest album, A Seat at the Table on September 30, 2016.
Knowles’ record resonates with many as her Neo-soul tunes speak of her identity as an African American woman. The recording artist moved to Louisiana while writing tracks for the album to reconnect with her southern roots. The plan must have worked as Solange’s third studio album has gotten more than 72,000 hits from direct sales and streaming units. The singer certainly had a passionate fan base behind her as she introduced her latest project. Knowles gave eighty-six of her social media followers A Seat at the Table editorial that included poems, photos, and a few of the album’s song lyrics just days before its grand premiere. Lil Wayne and Sampha’s guest spots on the record made the project all the more famous on launch day.

Solange’s Billboard success makes it one of few times that siblings have topped the charts. Beyonce is also enjoying success from her Lemonade album that made its debut several months back. Despite the difference in fame, the sisters have had similar success in releasing albums without announcement and with limited marketing. Similar to Beyonce, Solange announced and released this album in a 3-day span.

The Knowles sisters may be enjoying charted success at the same time, but their fame as artists is individual. Solange is a sort of fashion mogul to many. Rimmel London cosmetics named the singer as one of its brand’s faces in 2011, and Solange has made numerous expert guest appearances in Glamour magazine.

The celebrity, who is also the proud mother of an up-and-coming photographer, even established her record label in 2013. Saint Records released Solange’s third studio album in collaboration with Columbia Records.

A Seat at the Table is available in stores nationwide and online.
