Somewhere In A Dark City with Vision the Kid & Tru

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 26, 2014 11:36 am Tagged With: Hip Hop, rap

SIADC by Vision the Kid and Tru Every once in a while a record comes through my inbox and I’m left asking myself, “why haven’t I heard of these cats yet..?”. Vision the Kid & Tru have made me ask that question once again.

Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, this ill Hip Hip group has been making waves under our radar.

Vision the Kid was recently voted Best Local Rapper in Minneapolis publication Vita.mn In 2014, Tru’s debut instrumental album – Smokers Lounge – earned him a glowing review from City Pages.

When Vision the Kid dropped his debut album, Lost Summer, it spent 10 weeks on the CMJ Hip Hop charts peaking at #12. The duo’s recent EP – BrokenRadioLove – held a top 40 spot on CMJ’s charts multiple weeks. Their single “Live From The Midwest” has been featured on MTV’s Real World and E! Network’s Kourtney & Kim Take Miami.

Somewhere In A Dark City is the next step in the natural evolution of such a creatively superior group of talent.

Vision the Kid delivers an insightful, honest meal packed with nutritious lyrics. Seasoned with Tru’s refreshing and enticing arrangements, this record is solid from beginning to end. Great Hip Hop albums come few and far between these days but Vision the Kid & Tru belong on the top shelf with the other high quality acts currently making moves in the genre.

These cats are on my radar now and it will be interesting to see where the release of Somewhere In A Dark City takes them next.

The album is not yet available but you can keep up by visiting the website or connecting on FB or Twitter.
