Stay With Me by Jay Soul

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman October 20, 2014 8:27 am Tagged With: R&B, singer, songwriter, Soul

Jay Soul Jay Soul is one of those rare individuals who is able to balance a full time career as an IT professional while turning his passion for music into it’s own career.

Raised in a South London home, Jay honed his rich baritone by singing in gospel choir and performing as backup singer for an array of established UK urban acts; but now he’s ready to step to the front to deliver his own flavor of soulful songs focusing on topics such as love, loss, pleasure, pain, and observations of the world around him.

Reminiscent of early 90’s R&B acts, Jay Soul has passionately created a measured, mature, and focused record. On this album, production values were held high but not at the expense of each song’s raw material. Jay takes us back to the roots of soul with a punk-ish attitude and no-need-for-flash-or-auto-tune style.

Jay Soul is the real deal. He manages to stay modern and fresh while bringing us back to a time when names like Brian McKnight, Jodeci, Dru Hill, and Seal were dominating the airwaves.

When asked about the album, Soul had this to say,

People will be surprised when they hear the album because I want to cover a broad range of subjects,’ he says, seeing it as his role to hold up a mirror to his audience. ‘It won’t just be a bland R&B album about love and relationships. It will also be about what I’ve witnessed around me, although I’m no activist. I believe in capitalism but also in presenting people with opportunities. I have been presented with opportunities but I have also looked for them. Everyone in this country is lucky in that sense.

Stay With Me is packed with 10 fresh, soulful, and passionately raw singles that each pack their own punch. It’s obvious Jay Soul is all about the music.
