Straight Outta Compton – NWA Movie – Seeking Actors!

by C Bret Campbell February 22, 2014 1:12 pm

NWA_cover_400pxOpen Auditions have been announced for the Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, Mc Ren and DJ Yella Biopic, “N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton”.

Kim Coleman Casting is holding an open online casting call for lead roles for “Straight Outta Compton,” a new biopic that will chronicle the rise of the groundbreaking but controversial Compton, Cali. hip-hop group N.W.A. The film takes its title from N.W.A.’s breakthrough 1988 album.

F. Gary Gray will be directing the Universal movie about  N.W.A.  Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy E’s widow, Tomica Woods, are producing the project.

They are currently seeking young actors to play, Dr. Dre, Eazy E and the rest in the early years.

Auditions will be at  Rosecrans Rec Center in Gardena – near L.A. – on March 9th. If you don’t live in the area but want to audition, anyway, Video Reel submissions are being acctepted. You will want to have your act together and be prepared!

as listed on the flyer, the email for submissions is NWAmoviecasting @ gmail.com

nwa-straight-outta-comptonSubmitting for an acting role whether as a lead, speaking role, background actor or set extra is very similar to submitting music to labels and publications. However, you must present yourself even more professionally. In case you missed that… you must present yourself professionally.

A few tips for landing a role in film or television:

Get Professional “headshot” photos made. Get some full-body shots, too.

Always be respectful of the inbox. Be certain you are mailing the right person at the right address. A Universal picture will not accept your reel at their main e-box. Email Once. If no one gets back to you, you don’t fit the role. Apply for the next one, but don’t re-apply for the same gig, twice.

Include:

  • 3 headshots and two body shots.
  • Your information including age, hair, eye and skin color, weight, frame, jacket or dress size.
  • List skills that may apply to the role – A mountain-climber’s role just might require that you know a bit about a harness, for example.
  • All your contact info, phone, email, mailing address, agent’s info.

Never apply for roles you don’t fit. You wouldn’t sign up a jazz band for a metal festival would you?

Never falsify your info just to get a gig. You will be found out, and if you do somehow get the part claiming to be a race driver, but then you flip a car… well you get it…

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness.
