Debo Ray’s Self Titled Debut Is Bold, Brilliant and Unapologetically Her

by Leslie Sherman July 14, 2025 10:57 am Tagged With: singer, songwriter, United States

Singer songwriter Debo Ray has not just make a record — she has made a statement. Her self-titled debut album is fierce, fearless and deeply personal, and it’s the kind of debut that doesn’t ask for permission or genre labels.

It just shows up, honest and full of life, very much like the artist herself.

A Song Like Water – Molly Thomas on Love, Memory and Motion

by Leslie Sherman July 11, 2025 3:55 am Tagged With: 2025, Folk, indie, new music, singer, songwriter, United States

Molly Thomas’s new single, “I Am a Wave,” is the final track on her upcoming album Tumble Home, but it was also the very first song written for the project, a fact that gives it a cyclical almost tidal significance.

Written on a porch overlooking Mobile Bay, Alabama, with only stillness and the motion of water for company, “I Am a Wave” is a chamber folk meditative song that speaks to how we move through each other’s lives, separate, then reunite, and carry fragments of each other forwards.

“Open Up” feels like one of those songs that don’t need to prove anything. It arrives gently on the scene, patient and sincere.

George Collins has a talent for letting a song unfold naturally, and this one does just that. There’s a quiet confidence running through it that only comes from experience, both in life and in songwriting.

by Leslie Sherman July 7, 2025 10:29 am Tagged With: singer, songwriter

With a poet’s soul and a songwriter’s ear, Paige O returns with “Scarecrow Village,” a tender indie-folk single inspired by a real place in Japan filled with life-sized scarecrows meant to represent villagers who had either passed away or moved on. At once eerie and achingly beautiful, the song becomes a metaphor for absence, memory, […]
