The Man I Am by Charlie and the Foxtrots

by Featured Guest February 21, 2014 12:44 pm Tagged With: Acoustic, Americana, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock

Charlie and the Foxtrots new video for “The Man I Am” is a fun and lighthearted tale of bankrobbers, bandits, and wanted men dueling with sunflower pistols and it’s also the first single from their upcoming EP. Charlie and the Foxtrots are a gang of seven new-folk musicians who’ve recently been creating a lot of buzz in their local Nashville scene as well as nationally. They’re currently on the heels of a regional east coast tour and are getting ready to release their second EP later this spring.

In January 2013 Chas Wilson (vocals/guitar) recruited each of the ‘Foxtrots’ one by one into the current line up: James Varner (drums/vocals), Matt McClure (bass), Jeremy Webster (piano/vocals), Andrew Mcpheters (banjo/mandolin/trumpet , Josh Ramos (guitar/harmonica/banjo/mandolin), and Rob Hutchison (fiddle). Their name, Charlie and the Foxtrots came from the NATO phonetics for CF, “Charlie Foxtrot,” which is military slang for “Cluster Fuck;” an aptly chosen name considering the complexities of conducting a band with so many members. Charlie and the Foxtrots thread their poppy and energetic writing style in with the country and folk instrumentation reminiscent of Fleet Foxes, Mumford and Sons, Avett Brothers, The Lumineers, and Local Natives. They’re slated to release their new EP in the Spring of 2014.
